What is the Easy Way to Learn Piano?

Many parents wonder what is the easy way to learn piano in their own homes. There’s lots to consider: schedules, schooling, jobs, free-time constraints, budget, time, and the list goes on. One parent, Jennifer, also pondered how to make music lessons a reality in her home. Jenn is a busy homeschool mother of five children. The oldest, a daughter, is 16 and there are two sets of twin boys, ages 13 and 15! This mom has a BA degree in Mathematics and Masters in Education. She used to teach high school math, but since becoming a mother she has homeschooled from the very beginning. Her homeschooling tips and resources are shared on her site, https://www.mamajenn.com.

Jenn reviewed the Revolutionary Piano Method books in her August 26, 2020 blog and discovered them to be a highly effective and easy way to learn piano. Here are some of her thoughts:

Wondering how you can instill or foster a love for music? I suggest that you start with the piano! Learning the piano first provides a solid musical foundation and it makes it so much easier to move on and expand to other instruments, as with my children!

YOU Can Teach Piano to Yourself or Your Child!

What if I told you that your child could learn to play the piano from home? With the current pandemic upon us, many people are hesitant to have outsiders in their home. The Revolutionary Piano Method not only addresses this issue, but it provides an excellent foundation for learning to play the piano and empowers the parent to provide the instruction!

YES, as a parent, YOU can teach piano to your child! And, before you even ask – No, you don’t have to have any prior piano knowledge or experience! Yes, you read that correctly! No music skill required!

Or, for older students or even adults (like me), the method is great for self-teaching! Yes, I may have quit piano growing up, but now I have the opportunity to pick it back up again from the comfort of my own home. I’m excited about the thought of being able to just sit down at the piano and be able to play something more than Mary Had a Little Lamb!

What is the Revolutionary Piano Method?

The Revolutionary Piano Method was developed by author and composer, Leslie Young, and it really is an easy way to learn piano! Her piano method was birthed from her 40+ years of teaching experience and seeing the need for a more logical approach to learning to play the piano. With two product lines (one for young children and one for older/even adults), just about anyone wanting to learn to play the piano can be successful, regardless of their age! The Revolutionary Piano Method is designed for ages 6 to adult! Each series is currently comprised of five instructional levels. All levels include a Lesson Book, Theory Book, Theory Answer Book and Fun Book. (Exception – Level 1 does not contain a Fun Book).

Have an itty bitty musician? Be sure to check out the Revolutionary Piano Method Itty Bitty series which is designed for children ages 4 to 5. It is based on the original Revolutionary Piano Method, but progresses at a much slower pace that is more suitable for younger learners!

“I love the Warm-Up! illustrations. They help my students orient using the black-key groups to develop the skill of playing by touch instead of constantly looking at the keyboard.” ~Heather Olsen; Olsen Piano Studio; Double Oak, TX

“I have studied piano performance for many years and once considered becoming a concert pianist. Having examined the Revolutionary Piano Method, I appreciate the logic of this new approach and recognize how it could result in rapidly advancing sight-reading and performance ability for a beginner student.” ~Cyrille Destribois; Hanches, France

“No wonder I never learned to play using other books. They never taught me to really read the notes like these books do – and the cartoons are cute, too!” ~Allie Wilson; Student Age 11; Lantana, Texas

Leslie Young is the author/composer of the Revolutionary Piano Method. She co-founded a K-12th grade charter school in Texas and has been a piano teacher for about 40 years. She has had experience teaching a variety of students tackling piano for the first time or as returning students.

She states: “In teaching piano to students of varying ages, what also varies is a commitment of time and the amount of dedication. Children of certain ages may do very well with a parent as teacher; others may need someone who is not family to instruct them. Some older children and adults prefer to make progress on their own, and this method is designed to act as a meticulous guide through new material. Some adults and teens insist on professional teachers, which also encourages continuity. Because these books are self-explanatory, a new or experienced professional teacher will have no trouble using the Revolutionary Piano Method with students. It is an easy way to learn piano.”

Leslie believes that “learning to play the piano is more about diligence and perseverance” – but would add that just as critical to success is the method that is used, the encouragement of critical thinking, and the instructional principles that promote immediate success.
